Shawn Forsythe
Shawn has been taking photographs with film cameras since 1990, and with digital cameras since 2004. This website's portfolio presents primarily photos taken since 2026 – with Shawn's signature styles. Most of the photos are taken with a Fuji X-T5. Some are taken with a Canon G7-X Mark III.
Teaching is a passion of Shawn, so he also uses this website to teach hobbyists about photography. His photography explanations and tips can help not only camera users but also people who take photos with smartphones.
Shawn's Photo Style
Shawn does mostly what is called "street photography", and also some travel photography. Mostly. But Shawn calls his total method 'Daily Life Photography'. That means: photographs of interesting things or visually appealing scenes, reflecting what most active-minded people or curious people would find appealing in their daily lives.
Shawn captures 2 kinds of files: RAW files for software editing, and JPEG files from custom formulas he created himself. His formulas: Everyday Reala, Gentle Documentary, Color Slide, Warm Emotion, Rich Earth, B&W Modern, Night Energy, Night Cinema.
His photos present stylized real life that evokes natural human curiosity, feeling, or passion. He does not create hyper-processed images that are common in popular media, such as color-satured but flat-depth HDR smartphone style images. Shawn's defining style is: enhanced realism.
Editing Approach
Shawn edits RAW files with Luminar Neo.
He doesn't edit his customized JPEG files except to add an optional vignette; because they are designed to bring out the moods of specific types of subjects, lighting, and scenes. Straight out of camera.
Generally, Shawn does not heavily edit RAW files. He draws out what is already present in an image, to focus the viewer's attention on the subject or feeling that produces the photo's real-slice-of-life appeal. (Heavily edited photos look no different than AI-generated images.)
From time to time a strong edit is helpful to fix a problem in a photo; or to draw out the light, color, or texture. The goal is to maintain the real-life character – the soul – of a photo.
